Chocolate Berry-Cherry

pouring one cup of creamy 
flax milk into a blender,
because I’ve spent too much time
with the other non-dairy alternatives.
and the extra benefits
of fiber + protein are a plus
for this vegan’s skeletal muscles

so if you, a carnivorous stranger,
inevitably ask me, “Where do you get it?”
with any degree of derision
I might shrug
and list all the superior ways
to obtain protein
that aren’t cruel.

I’m kidding, because I’d like you to join me.

a half a cup of the darkest, 
fattest 
purply-blueberries,
from a container 
with seventies bubble font 
that says “BE KIND”
will be dumped in just before 
a half a cup of frozen maroon cherries
to lick stained fingers.

a whole banana 
that I snap off the end for Gigi,
because as soon as I peel it 
she comes running.
it must not have a single freckle.

fifty superfood claims
and 21g of plant protein
in two not-so-generous scoops 
of chocolate powder
(I detest chalkiness),
with a heaping portion of ice
for frigid and creamy sensations

whilst whole grain rolled oats
are goldening and toasting
in a pan of not too much
maple syrup,
ginger powder,
ground cloves + cinnamon
for a spice check
and a satisfying crunch
when I’ve had too many liquid mornings
whatever the fuck I mean by that.

optional: 
may we never forget 
a tablespoon
of ground flax
and a bunch of leafy greens
(baby spinach, please)
because goddamnit 
if we aren’t being the pinnacle of health
so that we may be lucky to die
with our skin still glowing

Gigi will remain crashed out (post-banana) 
the silky strands of her coat
silvery fly aways on my fingers
from the stickiness of syrup and fruit.

Chocolate Berry-Cherry Smoothie

1c of Non-Dairy Milk
1 Organic Banana
1/2c of Organic Blueberries
1/2c of Organic Frozen Cherries 🍒
1-2 Scoop(s) of Chocolate Protein Powder (I like Orgain and Garden of Life)
1/2c of Ice
Optional Add-ins:
1 tbsp of Ground Golden Flaxseeds (Bob’s)
1c of Baby Spinach (or Leafy Green of Choice)

Optional Topping:
1/4c of Old Fashioned Whole Grain Rolled Oats (Bob’s)
heat up 1 tsp of maple syrup in a saute pan, add oats and
1 tsp of Organic Ceylon Cinnamon Powder
1/4 tsp of Organic Ground Cloves
1/4 tsp of Organic Ginger Powder
or preferred spices
and let toast for ~5 min while prepping smoothie
