The first month of 2025 found me breaking up with social media just ten days in. And gosh, what freedom.
I know we shouldn’t look away from the things affecting our communities, and I won’t. But the disconnection from the endless stream of content created by people who are also consuming endless content? It’s a cycle I’m relieved to be apart from, and I have no desire to reinstall the apps. I can stay informed in other ways.
Here are a few things I’ve loved since the break-up. Of course, one can still do all of these things while attached to social media, but they somehow seem sweeter when detached.
Yoga. Constant yoga. Sometimes I just roll out my mat and drop straight into Child’s Pose or flow from a high plank into Downward Dog, moving with complete contentment. My body craves it.
Diving deep into Hugh Howey’s Silo Saga. I’ve always been drawn to dystopian world-building, and this one is just so good. If I lived in the Silo, I’m convinced I’d be a mid-level dweller—maybe in hydroponics.
Paying extra attention to little routines, like steaming high-protein almond milk and adding vegan liquid collagen to it. So tasty and so much nicer than being extra-caffeinated.
Long, cozy walks on nearby trails with my darlings:

Feeling more focused and clear-headed at work (despite writing this while I’m here, oops).
Not knowing what’s going on with my family, friends, and acquaintances unless I check in. The mystery is making everyone seem more enchanting.
Making soups from Rainbow Plant Life’s latest video. Tonight? Her butternut squash soup topped with toasted lentils. I can’t wait.
