my city, my rules

a Picture

today Gigi had her Silky Terrier (aka prone to tartar and plaque) teeth cleaned and I felt lost without her.

I fell in a Whole Foods parking lot (cut open one knee, scraped the other) and bounced up as quickly as I hit the asphalt. I (laughably) hobbled around inside and wondered why it’s so difficult to find First Aid in organic soap aisles. The wetness of blood clinging to the fabric of my midi dress.

I was sincerely distressed over picturing my dog under anesthesia. I went through the day in a state of fear and distraction. I realized just how much I am not okay with acceptance.

until I had her back in my arms. A melodramatic pair we make.

For context over my spiral, Gigi has a sickly history. We almost lost her in 2022 due to pancreatic issues (also common in this breed). If you have a Yorkshire Terrier or a Silky Terrier: careful with fat. In Gigi’s case, she was on a prescription food that had lots of fat in it, because of urinary issues early on.

We’ve had so many optimal years since all that, and I’m not about to neglect other things to keep her living as long as her health allows.
